Two companions, growing one careful step at a time

This page records what has formally shipped without turning every moment of companionship into an instruction manual.

Choose the current release for your device

Desktop v0.5.1 Current release

On-demand plugins make the installer lighter

Install only when needed

  • Optional built-in features, agents, desktop integrations, native pets, and character resources now download from the official plugin source. The installer still keeps the offline desktop core and default character.
  • Plugin Center provides consistent install, enable, disable, update, rollback, and uninstall actions. Disabling a plugin hides its product entry while keeping recovery available in Plugin Center.

Keep the companionship you already have

  • Upgrading from 0.5.0 preserves characters, names, settings, conversations, and reminder data. Plugins you explicitly disabled remain disabled.
  • Previously enabled optional features restore when online. Interrupted or offline downloads retain progress, while the default character and desktop core remain available offline.
Android v0.1.2 versionCode 6 Current release

More stable companionship across more screen sizes

Runtime stability

  • Interaction audio and companion images now load and release more efficiently, keeping repeated motion, language, and Rest Screen changes steadier.
  • All existing interactions, sounds, companion positions, and settings remain intact, with no new permissions or network features.

Screen and system compatibility

  • Portrait and landscape phones, tablets, and expanded windows continue to adapt companions and scenes to available space. Reduced-motion changes now apply while the app is running.
  • Android 13 and later gain predictive-back integration while preserving the existing back behavior for Rest Screen, interactions, and mandatory updates.
Desktop v0.5.0

Plugin Center brings integrations and built-in features together

One Plugin Center

  • The pet shell, built-in features, agents, native pets, character resources, and desktop integrations now show their status, dependencies, permissions, and privacy level in one place.
  • Desktop Archive, Companion Rest Screen, Personal Reminders, and Fun Interactions can be stopped or started again, with the choice preserved across restarts. Stopping them does not remove bundled code or user data.

Agents and desktop integrations

  • QwenWork and WorkBuddy now use the unified lifecycle. VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, terminals, Chrome / Edge, Obsidian, Blender, and WPS Office gain metadata-only integrations.
  • Integrations process reviewed anonymous lifecycle events only. They do not read prompts, responses, source code, command text, pages, notes, model content, or office document content.
Android v0.1.1 versionCode 5

Interactions gain sound, and dragging layers feel more natural

Interaction sounds

  • Taps, dragging, six hold-and-release scenes, and six shake responses now use original non-verbal short sounds, with a distinct rhythm for each kind of interaction.
  • Interaction sounds can be switched off independently in Settings. Automatic idle animations stay quiet instead of making frequent sounds while the app is left alone.

Dragging and upgrades

  • The most recently dragged companion stays in front after release until you drag the other companion, avoiding an abrupt return behind the idle character.
  • The production signing identity is unchanged. A versionCode 4 to versionCode 5 overwrite upgrade has been verified to preserve app data and character positions.
Android v0.1.0 versionCode 4

Caladan Pal arrives on Android

Companionship on your phone

  • The first public release supports Little Softstone, Shanshi, or both. Tapping, dragging, holding and releasing, and shaking lead to different character responses.
  • Companion Rest Screen includes Playground Walk and Desktop Football, with character and scene layouts adapted for portrait and landscape screens.

Website release and in-app updates

  • The first public website release provided a signed APK for Android 10 or later as 0.1.0 (versionCode 4).
  • The app now reads the production update feed. A newer release downloads in the foreground after security checks, and Android remains responsible for the final install confirmation.
Desktop v0.4.2

Reliable native-pet installs and richer page companions

Packaged-install fix

  • Fixed packaged builds failing to install Xiaoruanshi or Xiaoshanshi for ChatGPT App and Codex CLI. Installation still writes only local pet assets and selections, never chat content.
  • Files are verified individually against the bundled manifest with a rollback point. New diagnostics record only the stage and error code, not user paths, prompts, or responses.

DeepSeek Harness page companion

  • The browser companion reacts to received, working, tooling, needs-input, retrying, completed, failed, and cancelled phases. Background sessions expose status counts only.
  • Five fixed actions now animate the page pet first and can also reach the desktop pet. Placement, activity level, background badges, and cross-surface actions remain separate controls.

Launch and desktop interaction

  • ChatGPT App, Codex CLI, and DeepSeek Harness open directly from Access Center. DeepSeek Harness waits for its real page before opening the browser, reducing first-load blank pages.
  • A middle-mouse press now enters the existing six-scene random interaction pool immediately. Turning off Fun Interactions disables middle-button, long-press, and rapid-click entry points together.
Desktop v0.4.0

AI companions and native pets meet in one Access Center

One Access Center

  • Setup, pause controls, and diagnostics for ChatGPT App, Codex CLI, and DeepSeek Harness now live together, with common actions up front and details on demand.
  • Only lifecycle metadata crosses over. Prompts, responses, file paths, and error bodies stay out, while status bubbles clearly identify their source.

Native Xiaoruanshi and Xiaoshanshi pets

  • Choose Xiaoruanshi or Xiaoshanshi in the Access Center and install it for local ChatGPT App and Codex CLI use. Failed updates restore the previous working setup.
  • ChatGPT Web setup adds a transparent PNG export and guided confirmation, while keeping installed, selected, and visibly confirmed states separate.

Clearer interactions

  • Concurrent sources and sessions are easier to tell apart, and turning off Fun Interactions now fully disables both long-press and rapid-tap activities.
  • The five fixed DeepSeek Harness page actions remain available without carrying chat content.
Desktop v0.3.1

Steadier setup, fewer false warnings

DeepSeek Harness setup

  • DeepSeek Harness plugin setup, updates, and checks are now more reliable when Caladan Pal is opened from Finder.
  • Older integrations still connected to a development environment can move to the production location without displaying or uploading local paths.

Clearer status

  • When valid runtime events are arriving, a local inspection failure no longer appears as a protocol error.

A more reliable release

  • macOS signing and notarization now spend less time repeating work while keeping the full set of release checks.
Desktop v0.3.0

When an Agent gets to work, the desktop responds

Agents by your side

  • When the ChatGPT app, Codex CLI, or DeepSeek Harness starts or finishes a task, your desktop companions respond in their own way.
  • Concurrent sources and sessions now leave separate signs of activity instead of being collapsed into one status.

A clearer connection

  • The new Agent Center brings setup, updates, pause controls, and connection status together, making it easier to connect or quiet things down.
  • DeepSeek Harness also gains a small Caladan entry point for sending a quick fixed greeting to the pet.

Only status crosses over

  • These integrations process task lifecycle status only. They do not read or display prompts, responses, file paths, or error bodies.
  • Agent processes remain under your control. Caladan never silently ends active tasks.
Desktop v0.2.7

Smoother movement, easier Settings

Movement that follows your intent

  • When you want a companion to move, your intent is easier to catch. The character's own gentle sway no longer takes over that moment.

Settings that are easier to navigate

  • Character-related choices and app behavior now have clearer places in Settings, so it is easier to know where to look.
  • English and Chinese help and guidance were organized alongside the change, and Settings feel more natural in smaller windows.
Desktop v0.2.6

A few more chance encounters on the desktop

More random little scenes

  • Spend a little longer with a companion and more desktop scenes may appear. It might catch a ride or leave the moment in another unexpected way, but it always comes back.
  • These moments are not meant to be seen all at once. Each day together keeps a little room for something different.

Responses that do not always look the same

  • Give them a shake and the result is no longer always the same. Sometimes they really lose their balance; sometimes they show a little cunning instead.
  • These lightweight reactions rotate over time, leaving a little more surprise in ordinary dragging and play.

A more natural way home

  • Depth scenes have a steadier sense of direction, and return poses now feel more natural when the character comes home from different sides.
  • Windows, positions, and endings recover more reliably across several scenes in a row. Reduce Motion remains restrained.
Desktop v0.2.5

Hold a little longer, and the desktop opens into depth

A little surprise inside a longer hold

  • Spend a little longer on a companion and it may lift gently or fly into the desktop depth. Each one finds its own way back.
  • Dragging, tossing, and shaking feel more natural, with a brief new dizzy response joining the mix.

Experience polish

  • Improved scene transitions, docked state, and return-position consistency. Reduce Motion also uses a more restrained treatment.
Desktop v0.2.4

Lift gently, toss far, and watch it walk home

A little scene that finds its way home

  • A companion can be lifted gently or tossed into the distance. It peeks back from the screen edge, then slowly walks home.
  • The playful interaction can be disabled in Settings, and Reduce Motion keeps it restrained.

Desktop Football Moment

  • Companion Rest Screen adds desktop football alongside the playground walk. Both characters receive, kick, and dodge while the ball flies, lands, and rebounds across the full desktop.
  • Rest screens can use a fixed scene or rotate between scenes. A single enabled scene no longer flashes at the rotation boundary.

Other changes

  • The app icon now uses the friendlier character portrait from Settings.
  • Improved window stability during interactions and completed the necessary dependency updates.
Desktop v0.2.3

The computer rests while they walk the playground

Playground Rest Screen

  • Added a side-following nighttime track where Little Softstone and Shanshi walk together against continuous multi-layer parallax scenery.
  • Press ⌘ + ⌥ + L on macOS or Ctrl + Alt + L on Windows / Linux to enter or exit globally, or open it from the pet context menu.
  • It covers multiple displays, pauses while the system is locked, and restores the pet after an overlay failure. It is a low-interruption companion mode, not a secure system lock.

More natural Shanshi motion

  • Added Shanshi-specific breathing shifts, curious leans, sleepy nods, and soft settling.
  • Common feedback such as received, please wait, good night, great job, start work, and are you there now uses Shanshi-specific reactions.

Brand icon

  • macOS, Windows, and packaged app builds now use the formal Caladan Pal icon instead of the early placeholder.
Desktop v0.2.2

Shanshi visits, and desktop filing arrives

New character

  • Added Shanshi, an original feminine companion who can be selected alongside Little Softstone in Pet & Preferences.
  • Each companion keeps a separate name, artwork, lightweight reactions, managed persona, and Settings avatar.

Desktop filing

  • Drop files or folders located directly on the desktop onto the pet to move them into your chosen desktop folder.
  • Up to 20 items are accepted at once; name collisions get a unique name instead of overwriting an existing item.

Lighter guidance & response

  • Fresh installs receive one short guide bubble, while existing users see the Shanshi announcement only once.
  • Reasoning mode is disabled to prioritize short-chat responsiveness; incompatible model combinations fail clearly.
  • Version 0.2.1 was not publicly released. This version includes all planned changes and upgrades directly from 0.2.0.
Desktop v0.2.0

More expressive, with walks around the screen

Companionship

  • Lightweight reactions drawn from original animated stickers now appear around reminders, gentle check-ins, and bedtime.
  • New breathing, curious, sleepy, and settling motions coordinate to avoid interrupting one another.

Edge docking

  • Docked mode stays quiet while user-created reminders remain available in an edge-friendly card.
  • After resting at an edge, Little Softstone may patrol the full screen perimeter with pauses and varied pacing.

Experience & fixes

  • Settings adds Little Softstone sticker and Channels entries, with a calmer no-model setup experience.
  • Fixed edge presentation, reminder interaction, reaction withdrawal, repeated patrols, and display-area changes.
Desktop v0.1.9

Closer to the desktop, better at remembering

New

  • Dock to any of the four screen edges and drag the pet back to restore it.
  • A refreshed Caladan visual system for Settings, with stronger reminder creation and history management.

Reliability

  • Rapid clicks are no longer mistaken for a drag.
  • Native drag completion immediately saves the final window position.

X0WeChat Chat X0 is off by default. It runs only after explicit consent and QR pairing, requires the computer and app to stay online, and supports passive replies to private text chats only—no images, voice, files, groups, proactive pushes, or tool actions.

Desktop v0.1.8

More reliable reminders

Fixed

  • Reminder text and dates can be edited correctly in the chat confirmation form.
  • Fixed click-through, due-state mislabeling, and delayed snooze status.

Reliability

  • Stronger reminder synchronization and recovery across the pet, Settings, and app restarts.
Desktop v0.1.7

Personal reminders arrive on the desktop

New

  • Create one-time or daily reminders directly in chat.
  • My Reminders can view, edit, and cancel reminders; text stays in a separate encrypted on-device store.

Experience

  • New users start with the default pet name “小软石” (Little Softstone).
  • Improved the sleeping cuddle pose, closed eyes, and drool effect.
